One-Gram Gold Jewellery: A Complete Care & Quality Guide

Everything you should know before buying — what it is, how it's made, how long it lasts, and how to keep it looking new.

What is one-gram gold jewellery?

One-gram gold (also called "covering gold" or "gold-plated jewellery") is a base of pure silver or copper alloy coated with a thin, durable layer of 22- or 24-carat gold. Each piece carries roughly one gram of real gold — which gives it the rich warm tone of solid gold at a fraction of the price. It's lightweight, hypoallergenic, and ideal for daily wear and special occasions alike.

How it's made

Each piece is hand-crafted in our studio. The base is shaped and polished, then dipped in a gold-coating bath that bonds a fine layer of gold to the surface. Stones, beads, or enamel work are set by hand. The finished piece is polished again and quality-checked before it leaves the studio.

How long does it last?

With reasonable care, one-gram gold jewellery keeps its shine for years. The coating lasts longest when it avoids contact with sweat, perfume, hairspray, chlorine, and harsh soaps. Daily-wear pieces typically stay looking new for 1–3 years; occasion pieces last considerably longer.

How to clean one-gram gold jewellery

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cotton cloth after every wear.
  • For dull spots, use a microfibre cloth with a drop of plain water — never alcohol or jewellery cleaner.
  • Avoid toothpaste, baking soda, or ultrasonic cleaners; they strip the gold layer.
  • Store each piece individually in a soft pouch or zip-lock bag to prevent scratches and tarnish.

How to make it last longer

  • Put on jewellery after perfume, deodorant, and makeup.
  • Remove it before swimming, bathing, exercising, or sleeping.
  • Keep it away from humidity — a small silica-gel sachet in your jewellery box helps.
  • Rotate pieces so no single item takes all the wear.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. Our one-gram gold base is nickel-free and hypoallergenic, which makes it well-suited for sensitive ears and skin. If you've reacted to costume jewellery in the past, one-gram gold is usually a safe upgrade.
